Strike Your Pitch Shots Perfect Every Time – Ultimate Drill

In this post, I’m going to be showing you how using a coin in your short game practice can help you improve the quality and consistency of your shots around the green.

One of the most important skills to develop in golf, not only in the short game, is what is called the first point of contact with the turf, or where your club strikes the ground. With this skill, you can reliably predict where the club is going to strike the turf and this will enhance your ability to execute any shot, in any situation.

 Here is the drill:

  1. Grab a coin and place it down next to the ball.
  2. Place it in line with the ball. The purpose of this coin is to make sure that you’re able to master using the sole of the golf club – when the bottom of the golf club hits the top of the coin, it should pop up a little bit, indicating you’ve not shot too far forward and missed it altogether.

This is a great way to elevate the quality of your rehearsal swings – put the club on top of the coin, hit the coin a couple of times watch it pop up once you’ve got that feeling

Then, simply step into the golf ball, recreate the same sensation and you’ll notice that the ball pops up nicely as a result. The great thing about this drill is that it doesn’t need a fancy setup and you don’t need to go down to the golf course at all to practice.
