Easy Fix To Stop Hitting Behind The Golf Ball
Mar 21, 2022
If you’ve been wondering how to remove those chunk shots out of your golf game, you’re in luck. Read on to discover the three main reasons why/how this occurs and how to ensure that this doesn’t happen to you.
- Understand what you need before setting up. One of the key differences between golf and other sports is that we have to consider the angle of the clubface. For instance, in cricket or tennis, you would tend to just hit the ball up to try and send it across but in golf, you will notice professional golfers taking a piece of grass or a divot after they’ve struck the golf ball.
- This is slightly more technical; when the weight or mass of your body stays too far behind the golf ball for too long, you tend to have a lateral slide or a shift off the golf ball. Either way, both these variables would encourage you to hit too far behind the golf ball. I would encourage you to get a feel that your hips and your upper body are staying a lot more on top of the golf ball in the backswing and then finishing as far forward as you possibly can. Focus on maintaining all your weight on your front foot after you hit the golf shot.
- The correct way of casting the golf club: make a nice center turn. One of the best drills for this is a simple little right-hand only drill, where you’re going to address the club with just your right hand on. Move the golf club back to a hip height and from there, try and feel like you’re dragging the handle through so the club is going to brush in front of the red line. Allow yourself to get the club to hit in front of the line. You’re just going to feel a little bit of softness in the wrist and the change of direction from the hand moving back to forward creates some lag to the golf club, which encourages the golf club to strike a little bit further in front rather than behind.
I’ve created a few videos on casting previously on the channels so look through the library and see if you can find that one because this is definitely going to help and keep practicing to improve the quality of your impact.
